HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Arresting filter. It traps particles as tiny as 0.3 microns with a minimum efficiency rating of 99.97%. In metric terms, a single micron is 1 millionth of a metre. The filtration of the vacuum cleaners that our business use are a 4 stage HEPA with 99.995% efficiency at 0.3 micron. That means the HEPA filter is so efficient that for every 100000 particles that enter the filter within its filtering range, only 5 particles will get through.

Yes, it is unlikely for these systems to activate during the cleaning process however to minimise the small risk of these systems activating and the consequences if they did Priority Data Services request isolation of these systems. Standard building smoke detectors are usually not required to be isolated.

Costs can vary greatly depending on time and scope of the cleaning project. We have completed jobs in 3-4 hours to several weeks or months of overnight scheduling. Previous contracts have included three floor data centres with coordinated server shutdowns along the way.

Most hardware and industry experts recommend an above and below floor data centre clean at least twice per year, and an above floor surface clean at least quarterly to maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness in your mission critical facility. Other factors to consider are contractual requirements, client requirements, number of staff movements within the data centre, location, age and risk aversion level.
